| Kenya | JOSRA AA+ TOP | (60%): Nyeri (40%): Meru | AA+ | Annex, San Leandro, CA | 175 | This coffee originates from the famed regions of the Aberdares Mountain range and Mount Kenya. Only farms producing from the varietals of SL 28 and SL 34 were considered. Many of the most valued Kenyan coffees originate from these two select regions. Both the Aberdare Mountains (Nyeri District) and Mount Kenya are volcanic regions where the soils are a deep rich red, very well drained and full of vital nutrients. The rainfall is in good supply averaging 1800mm per year, across two seasons, feeding the many rivers and tributaries that supply the farms with fresh water. The equator crosses Mount Kenya and the Aberdares providing plenty of sunshine while the elevation prevents the temperatures from exceeding 33 degrees Celsius allowing for the optimum growing conditions. Elevation of this coffee is from 1500m to 1800m (5000-6000 ft.) above sea level. The farms consists of a minimum of about 800 farmers, who on average have 3-4 acres each, to form the cooperative societies where the coffee is produced. These are mostly family worked farms that use manure to increase productivity. This lot is sourced from the finest Kenya coffee. From the Eastern slopes and the Western slopes. Well balanced and wet processed. Most of the bulk came from the Aberdare range (60%+) with the balance from the Mt Kenya slopes (40%). The coffee is bagged with GrainPro bags to protect the high quality product. |
